I recent Fan requests several times a day for various pages. Some I become fans of, some I don’t. Sometimes though, I think I might want to become a fan of something, but I can’t quite figure out what it’s all about because the information isn’t there. Here’s an example and some ideas for improvement. [click to continue…]

I got a new laptop with a built in webcam last week, so I thought I’d give a shot at recording a video post. In this video, I talk about how Facebook got the word out about TriCitiesMenus.com pretty quickly and how you should give it a shot for your business as well.
And for those who are wondering whose legs are in the background, that is my wife’s Marilyn Monroe poster on the wall.
So what do you think about the video format? Should we do more of it, or do you prefer written posts? Share in the comments…
The right tools make your job easier or can even save your butt from time to time. Dropbox is one of those tools which has done both for us.
Dropbox does several things. First, it syncs files from your computer to your online account, where 2GB is actually free! If you have multiple computers (say at home and at the office, or even more than one computer at home), you’ll be able to access those files from any computer on which you’ve installed Dropbox.
Secondly, you can share files with others. For a recent client project, I needed an InDesign document which was over 350MB in size. That size file won’t go through e-mail, or even Basecamp, so Dropbox saved the day. The client was able to upload the file to Dropbox and then share the link with me to download.
How many times have you been at the house or at the office and wished you had the menu to the restaurant you are craving? TriCitiesMenus.com allows anyone and everyone to scan and contribute restaurant menus, which are viewable by all. To contribute, all you need to do is to gather, scan, and upload the menus from restaurants you visit. Once you have added a menu, you will have helped countless others solve the same annoying problem.
The idea behind the project was pretty simple. It was cold this weekend and my wife and I didn’t want to get out and we were wishing we had some menus. Then it dawned on me that this was an opportunity. I developed this site this weekend to “crowd source” the solution to the problem for everybody. Take a look at the site, contribute any menus you have, and let us know what you think!
Resolutions are worthless crap. That’s because they’re usually huge undertakings requiring big changes, which often leads to burnout. That means we fail. How many times have you resolved to lose weight in the new year only to lose sight of it pretty quickly after January? I’ve done the same thing. We don’t need resolutions. We need solid goals. If you’re on Twitter, you’re probably like me and have tried several different Twitter clients. I’ve tried Seesmic, I’ve tried TweetDeck, I’ve tried Twhirl, and there was always something missing from them for me. Then I tried HootSuite… [click to continue…]
I’ve noticed a trend in recent months where companies are penning down a manifesto. By definition, a manifesto is a public declaration of intentions, opinions, and motives. We all have each of these three ingredients—and they can differentiate us from the competition. [click to continue…]
How many of you have heard of Seth Godin? If you’ve ready any marketing books, you probably have. The guy’s perception is spot on. Seth made a post today called Is it too late to catch up? I suggest that everybody take a look at this list of things you can take action on to catch up on the tools which can make a difference. I want to expand on some of his points in this post.
